Worth County has been the talk of the season so far with its defense proving to be unstoppable.

Over the past twenty years, Worth has been a team known for its offensive firepower and the Rams currently sit ranked second in the class in the latest Score Atlanta rankings. However, in the 2025 season so far, the Rams’ defense has officially taken over the spotlight. Over the past three games, Worth County, competing in Region 1-A Division 1, has proved to have a formidable defense while shutting out its opponents and leaving the opponents scoreboard marked zero.

“Defense this year is very physical, has good pursuit and has had great execution of the game plan,” said head coach Jeff Hammond. “[This is] the first time in my career with three shutouts in the past twenty years.”

The results of this year’s games prove the Rams’ point clearly. Worth County defeated Turner County in its big season opener with a 42-0 score. Then came Irwin County in Week 2 when the Rams scored 28 points in the first half alone, even with a storm cutting off the game short. Then came Dooly County, which was handed a 53-0 loss by Worth County.

“[This is] a very good practice team,” said Hammond. “They come out with a mission to get prepared for these games. [The team] has an edge from last year.”

This is not just about a system either, it is about how these players make these plays. Josh McGee along with King Toomer lead the defensive line. When things get rough or if there is a struggle, they remain constant. Brady Weaver, Daylon Smith, DeWhite Council and Chance Sims are very quick linebackers and show their power well. Khalijah Thomas and Dashaun Rockwell have locked down the opposing receivers, making this defense unbreakable.

“We have outmatched all of our opponents and have focused on just ourselves and also our strategy as we are playing the game,” said Hammond.

In last year’s Week 4 matchup between Brooks County and Worth County, Brooks County walked away with a 26-7 victory. Tonight, the Rams have a chance to shut out the Trojans, who are 0-2 on the year, and keep their shutout streak alive.
