Then-unranked North Clayton entered the fourth quarter of its Week 6 contest against No. 2 Stephenson trailing 33-28 before relying on a 14-8 effort to secure a key Region 5 victory against the Jaguars.
North Clayton (5-1, 2-0) moved into the poll this week at No. 8 while Stephenson fell from No. 2 to No. 9. The Eagles lead the Region 5 standings ahead of Douglass (3-2, 1-0), Luella (3-2, 1-0), Mount Zion-Jonesboro (3-3, 2-1) and Stephenson (5-1, 1-1).
Four top 10 teams – No. 2 Sandy Creek, No. 3 Calhoun, No. 4 LaGrange and No. 10 Troup – rested last week and will continue region play this week. Sandy Creek (5-0, 3-0) will host Spalding (1-5, 1-3) for a Region 2 game. Calhoun will play host to Adairsville (2-4, 1-1) for a Region 7 game, LaGrange (5-1, 3-1) will travel to Whitewater (3-2, 2-1) for a Region 2 game and Troup will host Upson-Lee (4-2, 2-2) for a Region 2 game.
Two undefeated teams – No. 5 North Hall (6-0, 3-0) and No. 7 West Laurens (6-0, 4-0) – will enjoy bye weeks after victories in Week 6. North Hall moved past Pickens 38-0 and West Laurens upended Baldwin 70-55.
