Class 3A Blog: Peach County, Jefferson and Oconee County open season against ranked programs

Three top-ranked Class 3A teams open their seasons against ranked opponents while one ranked 3A program – No. 6 LaGrange – will play Cass in the 34th Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic which will be broadcast on the Peachtree Sports Network at Rome’s Barron Stadium at 5 p.m. Friday.

Also playing the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic is unranked Cedar Grove, which will face Therrell at Buck Godfrey Stadium Friday at 2 p.m.

Peach County is ranked No. 2 in the class and will play Class A-Division I No. 2 Northeast-Macon at Fort Valley State Friday. The Trojans defeated Northeast 40-21in last year’s season-opener.

Runner-up Jefferson is ranked No. 5 and will open the season Friday against Class 4A No. 5 Marist at home. The Dragons will look to avenge last year’s 23-7 loss to Marist in the opener.

In the battle of Oconee County supremacy, No. 9-ranked Oconee County will play at Class 4A No. 1 North Oconee and want to right the ship after losing to the Titans 21-10 last season.

The programs waiting another week to start their season are No. 7 North Hall (vs. Wesleyan on Aug. 22) and No. 10 Cairo (Aug. 22 vs. Class 5A No. 1 Thomas County Central).
