Week 7 marks the long-awaited start of Region 1 play as Class 6A’s South Georgia powerhouses open up region play. Heading into Friday, the six-team region has accumulated a 26-4 overall record with Lowndes, Valdosta and Camden County all carrying 5-0 records. Colquitt County and Richmond Hill both sit at 4-1 and Tift County is 3-2—resulting in all six teams achieving winning records after non-region play despite a grueling overall slate of opponents. Valdosta will travel to Camden County for their region opener and this will be a rematch of last year’s 56-37 victory by Valdosta. Colquitt County defeated Lowndes 38-35 at home last year, but will now be travelling to Lowndes this year and the third matchup will be Richmond Hill at Tift County. Last year, Richmond Hill scored a 21-17 victory.

Region 2 has one more week before its region slate and there will be three games two watch this Friday night. No. 3 ranked Carrollton is off on a bye after improving to 6-0 last week with its 43-7 victory over Parker (AL) and Westlake will be off after defeating No. 10 ranked Class 2A Hapeville Charter 13-7. This Friday, Chapel Hill will travel to Centennial and East Coweta will head to Cambridge. No. 4 ranked Douglas County will host Columbia after observing a bye this past week.

It is fall break for Region 3 and all eight of its teams will be off this week. In Region 4, the top matchup will be No. 1 ranked Grayson and visiting Newton. Last week, Grayson opened up region play with a 51-0 win over Grovetown, while Newton outlasted Archer in a thrilling 42-35 victory. Last season, this game got pushed back to the final week of the regular season and Grayson scored a 43-13 victory—improving its all-time record to 8-1 against the rival Rams.

Five of the seven teams in Region 5 will be off this week and the lone matchup will be Cherokee County rivals Cherokee at Etowah in region play. Cherokee was off last week, while Etowah dropped a tough 43-9 game to Marietta. Similarly to Region 5, Region 6 has a light Week 7 slate with six of its eight teams off on byes. The lone matchup will be Alpharetta at North Atlanta and all six Forsyth County teams will return to action next week after their fall break.

Region 7 has all eight teams in action with a four-pack of region games—highlighted by Brookwood at Parkview—which are both 1-1 in region play thus far. In Region 8, No. 2 ranked Buford will be off this week and the other six teams will be in action with Mill Creek at Central Gwinnett, Dacula at Discovery and Collins Hill at Mountain View. Below is the latest region standings and the schedule for this week’s 18 games in Class 6A.
