Class 6A Blog: Region 2 kicks off, Peachtree Ridge to host red-hot North Gwinnett

Week 8 marks the long-awaited start of region play for Class 6A’s smallest region—Region 2. Chapel Hill is the only team out of the five-team region that is off this week and the two matchups will be East Coweta at Douglas County and Carrollton at Westlake. This is the first week of the year where every game on the Class 6A schedule is a region matchup and there will be 26 total region showdowns to watch this Friday night.

In Region 1, Colquitt County has a critical home game against Valdosta and will need to bounce back from its 31-14 loss to Lowndes last week. Valdosta on the other hand scored a major victory to open its region slate and is coming off a 63-19 win over Camden County. Richmond Hill will host Camden County after scoring a 35-10 win over Tift County last week and Lowndes will host Tift after its 31-14 victory over the Packers.

Region 3 was off last week and will take center stage on Friday with four region battles. These matchups are highlighted by a battle of unbeaten between McEachern and host Harrison—who are both 5-0 overall and 2-0 in region play. Hillgrove is also still undefeated with an identical record to the Indians and Hoyas and will travel to Paulding County.

In Region 4, Heritage-Conyers will host Salem on Tuesday night in a non-region make-up game ahead of its home game against No. 1 ranked Grayson on Friday. Grayson is coming off a dominant 50-3 victory over Newton and is joined only by South Gwinnett as teams yet to suffer a region loss.

The top matchup in Region 5 will be Marietta at Walton. The Blue Devils are 2-0 in region play and Walton is 1-1. Both teams will be coming off bye weeks. All eight teams in Region 6 will be active this week and there is a massive matchup in Region 7 with North Gwinnett at Peachtree Ridge. Both teams are 5-1 overall and 3-0 in region play. North Gwinnett is coming off a 57-0 win over Berkmar and Peachtree Ridge scored a 43-7 win over Duluth last Friday.

In Region 8, Collins Hill will host Buford in a rematch of last year’s 34-7 win by the Wolves.
