Richmond Hill completed its long-awaited season opener on Monday with a 21-0 victory over Glynn Academy and completed a perfect sweep for Region 1 in the six-team region’s season openers. The Wildcats and Red Terrors had their Week 2 matchup postponed on Friday after heavy rain and lightning and then Saturday was hit with another weather delay that moved the game to Monday. With a Week 1 bye and a pair of delays, the wait was well-worth it as Richmond Hill not only opened the year with a victory, but also earned the win to commemorate the grand opening of its new 10,000 seat football stadium.

Richmond Hill will have a short week to prepare for its home game against Everglades (FL). The Wildcats’ 21-0 win over Glynn Academy was the first time that the Terrors had been shutout in 41 games. This came just over a week after Glynn opened its season with a 38-14 win over Wayne County that included a 336-yard rushing performance from the Red Terrors’ offense.

On Monday, Richmond Hill limited Glynn Academy to just 34 total yards of offense with 29 of the yards coming on consecutive possessions when the game was already won.

“We were relentless,” said head coach Matt LeZotte to Bryan County News. “Our guys were focused. Going into halftime we didn’t have to change much. The subtle changes we made were in technique and coaching these guys up.”

On Tuesday, Rockdale County will host Forest Park in their rescheduled Week 2 clash. Outside of that matchup, there are 50 Week 3 matchups to watch this week—including multiple top 10 showdowns.
