There are 125 softball games and 180 volleyball matches scheduled for Thursday evening, marking the season’s first really busy day.

On the softball field, top-ranked and Class 6A defending champion East Coweta will begin its regular season on the road against Central-Carroll (0-1). The Lions opened the season Wednesday with a 5-4 loss to Class 2A No. 4 Rockmart. In a meeting between ranked opponents, at 5:30 p.m., Class 2A No. 1 and defending champion Morgan County will host Class 3A No. 3 Monroe Area.

On the volleyball court, Class 6A No. 2 Walton opens its season 6:30 p.m. against Campbell. The Raiders, a 15-time state champion, won 10 of those titles from 2010 to 2021. At 5 p.m., Class 5A No. 1 Pope will play host to Class 4A No. 9 Kell in each team’s season-opener.
