Daily Dive: Volleyball semifinal matchups are set for Saturday

The GHSA Volleyball State Playoffs will have 14 semifinal matches on Saturday at four different locations to set the stage for the state championships next week. Seckinger, Providence Christian, Forsyth Central and Pope will host the semifinal action. This blog includes the master schedule and also a chronological breakdown of the 14 matches for those looking to follow the action this Saturday.

In Class 6A, there are three Raiders and the Archer Tigers remaining. Two-time defending state champion Alpharetta will meet with Archer at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Seckinger High School after the conclusion of North Forsyth and Walton at 3 p.m. North Forsyth is coming off a 3-0 road win over Richmond Hill and Walton stamped a 3-0 sweep over No. 2 ranked Buford in the quarterfinals—serving the Wolves their first Class 6A loss of the season and snapping their 8-match win-streak. Last season, Walton defeated North Forsyth 3-2 at home in the playoffs before eventually falling to North Cobb.

Class 5A will be played at Providence Christian starting with a battle between Sequoyah and McIntosh. These two teams previously met on Sept. 13 in non-region play and McIntosh scored a 2-1 victory. Following the battle of Chiefs, the Pope Greyhounds and Woodward Academy War Eagles will meet at 6 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the teams since last year’s championship that Pope clinched in straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-23).

Cartersville scored a massive 3-0 victory over Blessed Trinity in the quarterfinals and will now have to take on No. 1 ranked Pace Academy at 1 p.m. at Seckinger. Pace Academy has won eight-straight state championships. On the other side of Class 4A, rivals Westminster and Marist will meet at 11 a.m.

Class 3A defending champion Jefferson was defeated by Whitewater in the quarterfinals and now the Wildcats will take on star-powered Calhoun. Opposite of the bracket NO. 1 seed Richmond Academy and No. 13 seed Cherokee Bluff will square off. Cherokee Bluff has already survived two five-set victories this postseason against ranked opponents with its wins over Sandy Creek in the first round and North Hall in the quarterfinals.

Defending state champion Morgan County will meet with Savannah Arts at 2 p.m. on Saturday, while Ringgold—fresh off its 3-2 win over No. 2 ranked Columbus will take on Franklin County at noon. Class A has No. 1 seed Bremen, No. 2 seed Gordon Lee, No. 3 seed Oglethorpe County and No. 12 seed Chattooga remaining in the Final Four. In the Class A-3A Private classification, Hebron Christian carries a 46-2 overall record and 39-match win-streak into its showdown with Trinity Christian. The winner of this matchup will meet with the winner of No. 2 ranked Lovett and No. 3 ranked Mt. Paran in the championship.
