Four champions crowned in opening day of GHSA Game Day Championships

Lovejoy won the program’s first-ever state championship at the opening day of the GHSA Game Day State Championship at the Columbus Civic Center Wednesday where classes 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A completed their seasons.

The Wildcats finished atop of Class 5A with 93.73 points to beat Newnan (92.67), defending champion McIntosh (92.17) and Effingham County (90.40).

In Class 3A, Greater Atlanta Christian won its first-ever game day title ahead of defending-champion Mary Persons, Pickens and West Laurens. In Class 2A, Columbus defended last year’s title and beat out Morgan County (2021 3A-4A champion), Stephens County and Hart County.
