In Class 6A, No. 1 ranked Alpharetta closed out the regular season with a 3-1 victory over North Forsyth on Oct. 9 and carries a 28-match win-streak into the playoffs. The Raiders are 34-1 overall with their only loss coming to Class 4A’s Cartersville—a game which Alpharetta avenged later during this win-streak. Like Alpharetta, No. 2 Buford (27-3) and No. 3 Walton (23-6) will also enter the playoffs with no losses within Class 6A this season. Buford’s three losses came to Brentwood (TN), Class 4A Marist and Class A-3A Private Hebron. Walton’s losses this season came to Class 5A Pope, Class 4A Cartersville, Class 5A Woodward Academy, Class 4A Pace Academy, Class 4A Marist and Class A-3A Private Mt. Paran. No. 4 ranked North Forsyth finished its season with a 27-6 overall record and its resume is also impressive. The Raiders’ six losses comprise of two losses to both Pace Academy and Alpharetta in addition to the tight defeats to Walton and Milton. The change in the poll came with North Cobb falling out of the rankings and not making the playoffs after a 3-0 loss to North Paulding in the Region 5 tournament. North Cobb split its matches with North Paulding this season and has wins over Etowah, Westminster, Pope, Blessed Trinity and Harrison on its resume. North Paulding also defeated Etowah this season in addition to big wins over Pope and Norcross in September and will take on No. 7 Harrison in the first round carrying a 20-13 overall record.
In Class 5A, No. 2 ranked Woodward Academy defeated No. 3 ranked McIntosh 3-2 last Tuesday (7-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-9) after dropping the first two sets and needing to rally back. Johns Creek moved up from No. 9 to No. 7 after clinching the No. 1 seed out of Region 7 and closing the season on an 8-game win-streak. Additionally, South Effingham debuted at No. 10 in place of Glynn Academy and rides a 7-match win-streak into the playoffs after earning the No. 1 seed in Region 1. Class 4A did not experience any shifts and No. 1 ranked Pace Academy heads into the playoffs riding a 12-match win-streak. Class 3A No. 1 ranked Jefferson defeated No. 3 Oconee County and No. 5 Cherokee Bluff last week to earn the No. 3 overall seed in the playoffs.
In Class 2A, Columbus rose to No. 2 from No. 3 after stamping its 13th-straight victory and Burke County replaced Union County at No. 10. Brooks County replaced Thomasville in Class A and debuted at No. 10 and Elite Scholar’s Academy rose from No. 10 to No. 5. Finally, Class A-3A Private saw Calvary Day replace Holy Innocents’ and debut at No. 10.
