Richmond Hill upends West Laurens at GHSA slow pitch softball championship

Richmond Hills first-ever state slow pitch softball title required a come-from-behind effort to upend two-time champion West Laurens to capture the championship at Twin Creeks Park in Woodstock Thursday evening.

The Wildcats secured the championship with an 8-6 victory against West Laurens to cap a flawless run through the playoff bracket.

Richmond Hill opened with a 17-6 victory against Woodstock and moved past Elbert County 1-0 to earn a berth in the quarterfinals. Against Jefferson, Richmond Hill advanced with a 17-11 victory and beat Sequoyah 6-5 to earn a berth in the championship series.

West Laurens, which won titles in 2000 and 2023, beat Cherokee 9-1 and Haralson County 10- in the first two rounds before losing to Sequoyah 10-3. In the losers bracket, West Laurens moved past Elbert County 12-2, Jefferson 17-3 and Sequoyah 7-5 to advance to the championship series.
