A decision was made following Thursday night’s Gainesville/Carver-Columbus flag football altercation that forced the Tigers to forfeit their second round matchup against the Red Elephants.

The Georgia High School Association has ruled to deny the appeal by Carver-Columbus and uphold the previous ruling of the suspensions of the players as well as forfeit the game.

The Tigers were forced to forfeit Thursday’s Division 1 second round matchup due to the team not having enough players on the roster to continue the game.

“I thought the officials and teams did a good job of handling the situation,” said Georgia High School Association Executive Director, Dr. Tim Scott.

The altercation between the Red Elephants and the Tigers occurred in Thursday’s second round matchup between the two schools where a scuffle broke out with nine minutes left in the third quarter that saw the Tigers benches clear out.

As a result of the ruling, the Gainesville Red Elephants were awarded with a 1-0 victory and will move on in the Division 1 bracket and travel to Harris County to face the Tigers in the quarterfinals.

Both Harris County and Gainesville are seeking the program's first-ever flag football state championship.
