Athens Academy entered the 2025 season with one of the top passing offenses in Class A-3A private and at the center of that offense is star wide receiver Keyon Standifer.
Standifer, only a junior, had 1,222 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.
Through the first three games, Standifer has been elite once again. In game one vs. Aquinas, he made four catches for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. He had a slower outing in Week 2, recording just two catches for 24 yards in the Spartans’ 28-0 win over Savannah Country Day. In game three, he returned to form with four catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.
Standifer is a shifty and explosive wide receiver who can line up all over the field as a pass catcher, excelling both after the catch and when stretching defenses vertically. He projects as a slot specialist at the next level but has the versatility to play as a Z and even occasionally as an X receiver.
Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 170 pounds, he is the prototypical slot receiver. His combination of speed and quick feet makes him a coverage nightmare, especially in man coverage. However, he also does an excellent job of finding soft spots in zone and using his skill set to make defenses pay.
Recruiting traction is starting to build. His stature and the fact that he plays at a smaller school have slowed his recruitment somewhat, but this summer he picked up two offers, one from Dell McGee and Georgia State and another from Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets extended their offer after a strong performance in the Brent Key Corky Kell + Dave Hunter 7-on-7. As Standifer finishes his junior season and heads into the offseason, he is expected to attract more offers as coaches shift their attention to the class of 2027,
