Class A Div. II Blog: Lincoln County clashes with visiting Warren County for Region 8 title

After a light 18-game slate this past week, the action is revving up for Week 11 with 29 total matchups in Class A Div. II. There will be 23 region games Friday night, including major region championship games. No. 1 ranked Lincoln County will host Warren County for the Region 8 championship. The Red Devils defeated Warren County 42-0 last year, but then had to defeat Greene County the following week 43-20 to secure the region title. This year, Greene County is off to an 0-2 start in region play. Moreover, the Tigers are 1-7 overall after going 7-1 up to this point last year. Washington-Wilkes can also still make noise. Sitting at 2-1 in the region, the Tigers are coming off a 35-28 win over Greene County and will be off this week ahead of their trip to Warren County next Friday. Washington-Wilkes’ only loss came to Lincoln County (42-7). As a result, a Lincoln County victory over Warren County tonight would make the battle between Washington-Wilkes and Warren County a game for the No. 2 seed and the loser of that matchup would be guaranteed the No. 3 seed.

In Region 7, Bowdon leads the standings with a matchup tonight at Greenville and then next Friday against Trion. Trion’s region loss came in a 41-17 defeat to Mt. Zion-Carroll. Meanwhile, Mt. Zion-Carroll’s region loss came to Bowdon and the Eagles will close out the regular season tonight against Manchester. Mt. Zion-Carroll lost 48-14 last year to Manchester and is 1-3 all-time in the series. A win tonight would give the Eagles their first home playoff game since 2018.

Taylor County controls its own destiny in Region 6, but has to play Macon County following tonight’s road game to Crawford County. In Region 5, Johnson County and Georgia Military Prep will play of the region title next week if Georgia Military Prep is able to defeat Wilkinson County tonight. Region 4 has Wheeler County and Treutlen locked in a tie at the top of the standings with Wilcox County sitting at 3-1. Wilcox County can shake up the standings tonight with a home game against Wheeler County.

In Region 3, Screven County and Emanuel County Institute will meet next Friday on Halloween at ECI for the region championship. Both Screven County and Emanuel County Institute last one region titles in 2017. Last year, Metter swept its way to the Region 3 title, but finds itself in a three-way tie at 3-3 for the fourth seed this year. Metter will play Jenkins County tonight with a chance to battle back into playoff contention and then has a clash with Bryan County on Oct. 31. In Region 2, Clinch County can secure the region title tonight with a home win over Turner County. There are three Region 1 matchups tonight also with Early County and Mitchell County battling for sole position of first place.
