Class A Div. II Blogs: Five unbeatens leads all classifications entering postseason

Screven County (Region 3), Wheeler County (Region 4), Johnson County (Region 5) and Schley County (Region 6) all secured region titles last Friday night and joined Region 1’s Early County, Region 2’s Clinch County, Region 7’s Bowdon and Region 8’s Lincoln County as this year’s top seeds in the playoffs. For Screven County, the Gamecocks scored a thrilling 22-21 road win over ECI to close out a perfect 10-0 season—marking the first perfect regular season for the program since 2017. Screven County missed the playoffs last season and was coming off back-to-back four-win campaigns and this is its first region title since 2017. The Gamecocks enter the playoffs undefeated with Clinch County, Wheeler County, Johnson County and Lincoln County. Class A Div. II’s five undefeated teams is the most in any classification heading into the playoffs.

Wheeler County’s flawless season ended with a dominant 58-14 win over Treutlen last Friday night. This win came on the heels of the program’s 40-38 four-overtime win over Wilcox County. Hawkinsville, Treutlen and Wilcox County all finished in a tie for runner-up in the region with 4-2 records, but Hawkinsville got the edge and secured the No. 2 seed with Treutlen taking the three seed and 7-3 Wilcox County falling to the fourth seed. Wheeler County will host Manchester in the first round and will have an opportunity to win its first playoff game since 1999 when the school won its last and only playoff game.

Johnson County defeated Georgia Military Prep 42-3 last Friday to secure its fourth-straight region title and the Trojans’ perfect 10-0 season is the first since 2022 when that region title streak started. The Trojans allowed just 8.8 ppg this season and will host McIntosh County Academy in the first round.

The fourth team that secured a region title last Friday was Schley County and the Bobcats did it by winning the three-way tie between Macon County and Taylor County. All three teams finished 5-1 in region play and this marks the Bobcats’ third region title in the last four seasons.  

The final week of the regular season started early with five games Thursday night. Region 1 champion Early County wrapped up its slate with a tough 32-9 loss to Alabama’s Eufaula. The Bobcats will play the No. 4 seed out of Region 8 in the first round and that will be Greene County. The Tigers closed out their against Lincoln County—which has already wrapped up the region title. Lincoln County won 42-0 to finish 10-0 and complete its second-straight perfect regular season. .

Clinch County out of Region 2 travelled to Lanier County with a chance to finish its first undefeated regular season since its 2018 title and did so with a 48-0 victory. Bowdon defeated Trion 63-0 last Thursday to secure the Region 7 title and will begin its bid for a fourth-straight state title with visiting Wilcox County in the first round.
