Marietta girls win seventh-straight; Atlanta Classical and Bleckley County sweep A-DI and DII at GHSA Cross Country Championships

The victory in the Class 6A championship marked the Marietta girls’ ninth overall and seventh-straight title as the GHSA Cross Country Championship closed in Carrollton Saturday.

The Blue Devils scored 38 points and were led by Mary Nesmith (19.03.16) who finished third place. On the boys side, West Forsyth defended last season’s championship to secure the programs second-overall. Sena Hosu (16:06.55) placed third to lead the Wolverines, who scored a team-total of 53 points to edge Carrollton (65).

The Oconee County boys team won its seventh overall championship and fifth-straight title in the Class 3A race. Aaron Broderick placed first to lead Oconee County with a time of 16:04.24. On the girls side, North Hall continued its streak of championships that began with its first-ever title in 2024. The Trojans were led by Summer Muxlow, who placed first with a time of 19:23.03, and Ealyn Kennedy, who placed third.

In Class 2A, Columbus’ boys team defended last season’s title, securing the program’s third (1999). Oliver Pendleton placed third with a time of 18:11.83. On the girls side, Savannah Arts captured the team’s fourth state title since 2022 and its third-straight championship. Francie Tedder placed second (21:29.23) and McKay Bennett placed third (22:15.26) to lead Savannah Arts.

Bleckley County’s boys won the programs fifth-overall and third straight title while the girls team won the team’s ninth and fifth-straight title. Jack Harrell (1st, 16:50.42), Ryder Garrett (2nd, 16:53.92) and Brody Gibbs (3rd, 17:05.38) led the Royals to victory. On the girls side, Lily Farrell (1st, 18:38.92), Ella Gibbs (4th, 20:25.17) and Anna Lynch (5th 20:37.71) led Bleckley.

Atlanta Classical’s boys captured the programs third title while defending last year’s crown and the girls earned the team’s fifth-straight championship. Sanders Hearne (1st, 17:10.90), Ian Burke (2nd, 17:38.61) and James Alexander (4th, 17.54.56) paced the boys team. On the girls side, Mary Elizabeth Kirkland (4th, 23:1.43) led Atlanta Classical.
