The Westminster boys and girls cross country teams staked their claims to the Class 4A championships after the first day of the GHSA Cross Country Championships ended in Carrollton.

The Wildcats entered the championships with a combined 65 titles (31 boys, 35 girls) and had not swept the titles since the 2021 season. Last year, Westminster’s boys ended a streak of seven-straight championships. The girls won nine-straight from 2013 to 2021 but had not won since.

In the Class 5A competition, Creekview’s boys and Pope’s girls won titles. The victory marked Creekview’s first-ever state championship. For Pope’s girls, the victory marked a title defense and added the eighth title to the Greyhounds’ trophy case. Pope had previously won titles in 1992, 1994-1997 and 2020.

In Class 1A-3A Private, Hebron’s boys and Wesleyan’s girls were victorious. Hebron previously won championships in 2104 and 2017. Wesleyan’s girls have won six-straight titles and now have 11 overall championships.
