North Oconee defends title; North Forsyth wins first at GHSA Gymnastics Championships

North Oconee won its first gymnastics championship in 2019 and since, the Titans do not know what it is like to not win a state title.

And after outlasting the Class 1A-4A competition, North Oconee defended its title for the sixth-straight time, sans 2020 when the competition was cancelled due to the pandemic. The Titans finished with a team total of 112.75 points to lead Bremen (107.125), Westminster (100.90) and Union Grove (94.8).

Emma Howells led the Titans, securing the All-Around title with 39.225 points after placing first in the bars, floor and vault disciplines. Howell scored 9.7 points in bars, 9.8 points in floor and 10.00 in vault to lead the Titans to victory. East Forsyths Katelynn Tatum placed second All Around with 37.8 points while Bremens Sadie Jane Harper scored 37.025 points for third place.

In the Class 5A-6A competition, North Forsyth scored 111.65 points as a team to lead Buford (110.00), Carrollton (108.85) and Forsyth Central (106.75) in the team results. North Forsyths Logan Otteson scored 38.375 points to place third in All Around while Ashley Ferguson placed second in the floor discipline with 9.625 points.

Bufords Johanna Sasser scored 38.825 points to win the All Around title with first place finishes in the bars (9.7) and vault (9.9) competitions and was trying to lead the host Wolves to the programs fourth-straight and seventh overall championship.
