Track sectionals completed, state meets set

The state sectionals which mark the final phase before state titles are decided, were completed this weekend around the state. Each classification splits into two sectionals and the top each qualifiers from each event in its sectionals advance to the state meet. … Brookwood’s Simone Glenn took the top time in the 100-meter qualifier in Class AAAAAA Sectional-B at 12.06. … Elexis Guster of Berkmar came in at 12.08. … Westlake’s SheKara Martin posted the fastest time in Class AAAAAA, however, at the sectionals at Roswell at a blazing 11.76. … Martin also came in with the fastest time in the 200 meters at 23.99, with teammate Jenee Nichols coming in second fastest at 24.29. … Mill Creek’s Malaysia George took the top time in her sectional with a 24.56 in the 200 meters and won by more than four seconds as she crossed first in the 400 meter with a time of 54.14. … Westlake’s power continued in the 4×100 and the top two fastest times were anchored Lion quartettes. …The boys side had a strong showing from Hillgrove’s Demetrius Duggans. Duggans clocked a 10.67 in the 100 meters and qualified in the 200 meters with a 21.80. Hillgrove teammate Trevon Simmons qualified in the 400 meters behind McEachern’s Rajon Wright who led the field with a 49.07. … Hillgrove appears as an early favorite in AAAAAA heading into the state meet. …Walton’s Brian Sullivan qualified for state in the 800 meter and earned the top seed in the 1600 with his 4.23.15 finish. … In Class AAAAA Cassondra Hall from Northside-Warner Robins took the top time in the 100-meter dash (11.67) and 200 meters (24.02). A lot of familiar faces will be in the blocks next to Hall as Jada Martin of M.L. King, Erika Banks of Dunwoody, Ashlan Rosier of Lakeside-Evans, and Dejah Johnson of Loganville all qualified in both events. …The Dunwoody girls are deep heading into state with Lauren Jackson’s grabbing the top times in the 400 meters and 800 meters. The Wildcats also finished with the fastest times in the 4×100 and the 4×400. The 1600 and 3200 meters will also feature the Wildcat’s with Alex Cameron finishing second behind Lakeside-Evans’ Sarah Bowles in the 1600 meters and taking first in the 3200 in sectionals.
