HOOPS PREVIEW: SWD faces Miller Grove in AAAA clash

Class AAAA No. 1 Miller Grove will host No. 5 Southwest DeKalb tonight as Shaq Goodwin, a member of the Score 44 and one of the Big Three faces another member of the Big Three, Tony Parker as well as Score 44 forward Brandon Morris. … Walton and Lassiter met twice on the football field this past season with the Raiders prevailing both times. Many of those Trojans players will seek out a measure of revenge tonight as the two programs square off on the hardwood. Lassiter’s roster includes football standouts Niles Clark, Juwan Dickey, Robert Dowling and Adam Dowell. … Wheeler will hit the road to face Etowah tonight. Charles Mitchell scored 30, including 12 in the fourth quarter in last week’s loss to Milton. He will look for some help to take down Etowah. … No. 4 Mill Creek travels to North Gwinnett in a game that features two teams that have been ranked in the Score Atlanta Class AAAAA rankings at various points this season. SWIMMING NOTEBOOK: Parkview, Walton win county championships

Parkview won the Gwinnett County championship meet with 1,045.5 points to Collins Hill’s 820.5. Mill Creek came in third with 797.5 points. It is the Panthers’ 18th county title in 21 years. While winning the county boys and girls meets, Parkview increased its record set earlier this year with 40 qualifiers to the GHSA state championships. Read more >

SCORE 44 HOOPS: Week 9

The Score 44 is a fluid list that aims to honor the best 44 seniors in Georgia high school basketball on a week-to-week basis. The members of the 44 are some of the most highly-recruited and talented players in the state. The list will weigh high school performances, but also project how they will do at the next level. Unlike the football list, however, the basketball list is divided into boys and girls groups. Each week we will honor 22 boys and 22 girls, all seniors.

WRESTLING NOTEBOOK: Mustangs come through with landmark win

McNair won its first-ever DeKalb County wrestling title Saturday at Miller Grove. The Mustangs outpointed Marist 200.5 to 193 after trailing 182 to 175.5 with three matches remaining. Khalil Williams won the 120-pound weight class while D.J. Jackson pinned Miller Grove’s Jacob Miller to win the 220-pound class. Kenneth Brinson won the 195-pound class for Marist while Patrick Lange (120), Matt Andres (138) and Ian Kirchner (145) each were runners-up. Read more >
