Camden coach Jeff Herron announces retirement

Camden High School head football coach Jeff Herron has announced he is retiring from coaching.

Herron is a five-time state champion, having won a state championship withe Oconee, Camden and Grayson, with his most recent one being with Grayson in 2016. The legendary coach was at Camden from 2000-2012 before accepting a job at Prince Avenue Christian. Herron remained their for three seasons before spending the 2016 season with Grayson where they won a State Championship.

He spent a year with the Rams before moving to South Carolina where he coached T.L. Hanna High School for two seasons.  In his two seasons with the Yellow Jackets, Herron posted two undefeated regular seasons, but ultimately losing in the post season.

After two seasons in South Carolina, Herron retired for the next two years until he was hired at Camden High School for his second stint with the Wildcats.

Herron has over 330 wins in his high school career, and is famous for his “Wing T” offense that he applied to his teams.

Herron’s successor has yet to be named.
