Cards will make surprising Super Bowl appearance against gritty Steelers team

Show of hands – who picked the Arizona Cardinals to make it to the Super Bowl at the beginning of the season? If you raised your hand, you are such a liar and should be ashamed of yourself.

Either way, the Arizona Cardinals will represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Kurt Warner was really good, but Larry Fitzgerald was amazing throughout the NFC playoffs. Warner must feel an unbelievable sense of comfort knowing that if he throws the ball anywhere near Fitzgerald, he’ll likely come down with it. He was the Eagles’ primary focus on defense and he still managed to catch three touchdown passes and rack up 152 yards. He was just sensational! The fact that he lets his play speak for itself sets him apart from a lot of the other really good receivers in the league. Arizona was not a great team during the regular season but they’ve been extremely impressive throughout the playoffs. I don’t know that they’ll be favored in the Super Bowl against the Steelers (who beat the Ravens in the AFC), but they have a very good chance of ending this improbable season with the Lombardi Trophy.

Speaking of the Steelers, they win some of the ugliest football games. It’s a good thing there are no computers involved with the rankings because they may not have made it. Other teams can learn a lot from the Pittsburgh Steelers organization. It took a chance on a young head coach instead of a retread and it has paid off in only his second season, regardless of if they win it or not. Mike Tomlin gets the opportunity to go head to head against Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm, the two guys he beat out for the head coaching job in Pittsburgh. It should be a great game. A lot can happen in two weeks, but right now, I think the Steelers will win this game.
