Daily Dive: CJ Brown leads Kell past Wheeler

CJ Brown has proved he is one of the best players in the Peach State after he helped lead Kell to a program-first state championship last season. He is rated a 3-star recruit on 247Sports.

Brown can score on all three levels of the court, guard the opponent’s best wing player, and has an uncanny ability to finish through contact in his pursuit of the basket. His fiery energy and tenacity are infectious, and he can get any crowd going whether he is at home or playing on the road. He leads Kell in scoring. Brown put on an absolute show against one of the top-ranked teams in the state, Wheeler Wildcats, which Kell upended 66-52 Saturday.

Coming into the matchup, Wheeler was 7-1 with impressive wins against Newton, Holy Innocents, and Rock Creek Christian (MD). In the Double-Trouble Invitational, Brown scored 29 points while adding three rebounds and two steals. His steals were crucial because they sparked big runs for the Longhorns and allowed them to build their lead. He also had several memorable plays and dunks none bigger than his dunk on seven-footer Josh Hill (Arkansas State commit). The crowd and Brown celebrated with his former teammate Peyton Marshall (Overtime Elite). He displayed the full repertoire in that game by getting to his spots and scoring at will against a stout defensive team.

Brown is currently committed to USF and announced his commitment right before the season started. He also has offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Rice, Georgia State, and Tulane. He looks poised to have an all-state type of season and makes Kell a true contender in 5A. Brown is a name to watch in 2023 and beyond.
