Defense hangs tough in loss to C. Gwinnett

Following a 46-0 loss to the Grayson Rams on Oct. 24, the football team hosted Central Gwinnett last Friday night. Before the game, head coach Terrone Owens said, “Despite our record, we are very confident.” In the second quarter, the Black Knights’ offense scored four touchdowns, tempering Meadowcreek’s enthusiasm. The Mustangs’ defensive unit provided a counterpunch, scoring on a 79-yard interception return by Jalanni James in the waning seconds of the half and recording a safety in the fourth quarter, but Meadowcreek’s offense never found the end zone and the team fell to 1-8 on the season with the 35-9 loss. The Mustangs close the season at Dacula on Friday. … The cross country team wrapped up its season by co-hosting and participating in the Region 8-AAAAA tournament on Saturday. Top finishers for Meadowcreek were David Navarrette (43rd, 19:29.17) for the boys and Freddie Banks (35th, 23:38.85) for the girls. This year’s team ran seven or eight miles a day in practice (two to three miles more than last year) and 10 Mustangs joined the Mustang 10 Mile Club by completing a 10-mile practice run.
