ELITE JUNIOR: Josh Fannin

Mill Creek HS

Josh Fannin, a 6-foot-3, 275-pound Mill Creek lineman, is making a name for himself while keeping his quarterback and running backs happy. They’re happy because Josh has been working hard all year to make sure these guys don’t get hit, and to make sure that the Hawks offense can make a strong push into the playoffs.

Josh is an effective lineman with 90 percent blocking grades and over five pancakes a game. His play is really starting to get noticed as 20 different D-I schools have already started talking to Josh, including UGA, Clemson, South Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Josh isn’t sure which school he wants to go to yet, and he is wisely making sure that he takes his time and makes the right decision. He doesn’t want to rush his decision, but instead wants to make sure he finds the school that is right for him.

“I am just appreciating this incredible experience,” Josh says, “I am enjoying all of the amazing people that I am getting to meet and the places we are getting to see.”

He’s attended camps at Clemson, NC State, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech and Tennessee. For some students his age, those schools would be ruled out because of their academic ability. However, Josh’s work ethic when it comes to schoolwork is one of his strong points. In his interview Josh exemplified the priority that needs to be emphasized on academics. With a 3.2 GPA, that is continually climbing, he should do very well at whatever institution he decides to attend.

In addition to balancing football and academics, Josh understands the importance of giving back to his community every chance he can. Josh explains, “In my spare time I do try to give back as much as I can, especially when I can give some time to help with kids the way people were always willing to help me.” He spends most of his volunteering time helping the youth football programs around him. He even helps run O-Line drills in the spring for the students who are coming up to high school the next fall.

So Josh is heavily involved in football, academics, and promoting football and healthy lifestyles to the youth in his area. If that weren’t enough, Josh is also a member of FCA and the Future Business Leaders of America organization at his school. He also finds time to work with his Mom at the Hamilton United Methodist Church. Josh is involved with their Vacation Bible School as well as the Helping Hawks Program. ”

We volunteer services for seniors, shut-ins, and people who need help with physical chores and things we usually just take for granted,” Josh said. “Coach Jarvis does a great job keeping us focused and helping realize how blessed we really are.”

Josh is an exemplary football player, student, and overall citizen. He is a great example of the things you can achieve when you work hard and stay focused. It will be exciting to see him continue to accomplish great things at Mill Creek for the next year. The Mill Creek community will miss him when he leaves for college, but whichever college he chooses to go to will notice an immediate boost to their football program and community just by having Josh
