Football continues unbeaten streak with win over Hillgrove

After losing the first three games of the season, the football team is coming into its own as it has won its last four games. On Oct. 10, the Yellow Jackets blew out Paulding County 56-7, and on Friday they outlasted Hillgrove 29-26. In the game against the Hawks, Eddie Avellaneda kicked a 21-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to help secure the win for the Yellow Jackets. David Carter and Forest Holt led the rushing attack with a combined 281 yards and three touchdowns. Holt also had a 10-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Moses in the second quarter. Overall, the offense had one of its best games of the season with 370 total yards and no turnovers. They will take on South Paulding on Friday. … The volleyball team has qualified for the state tournament that starts on Thursday. Last week, the team beat Woodland and Northwest Whitfield to secure the No. 4 seed. Haley Winston led the Lady Jackets with 31 kills, 15 digs and eight blocks. … The softball team’s season has ended with a 5-15 record.
