Football falters after fast start; softball makes sectionals for fourth consecutive year

Things have been tough for the football team lately. On Oct. 18, the Spartans lost 14-0 to the Stone Mountain Pirates. It was a frustrating night for the offense, as it was able to move the ball all night but came up short in the red zone. Linebacker Ricky Lang provided big plays on defense. Last Friday night, fumbles and turnovers plagued the Spartans, as Miller Grove breezed to a 46-0 win. Despite pesky play on defense by Lang and Derrick Bowdy, nothing seemed to go right against the Wolverines. North Springs will hit the road this week to face Forsyth Central. … The softball team finished its season with a strong showing by qualifying for the Class 4A state sectionals for the fourth straight year. The team fell to Sandy Creek and Madison County, effectively ending its season. Led by Megan Light, Erica Burgess, Kali Gray and Peyton Glass, the Spartans relied on strong pitching all year to beat their opponents. Building upon an improved junior varsity system, the team looks to reload their roster next year to make another run into the postseason.
