Friday night recaps: North Cobb, Parkview avoid “hangover”

Last week, Parkview and North Cobb pulled off amazing upsets of two of the top teams in the state. This week, the Panthers and Warriors won to keep rolling in region play.

Class AAAAAA

Central Gwinnett 51, Berkmar 24: Emmanuel Westmoreland passed for 271 yards and two touchdowns to lead the visiting Black Knights. Nigel Adams added 49 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Central Gwinnett. Chris Shelley caught six of Westmoreland’s passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. Linebacker Trey Johnson returned an interception 25 yards for the final Black Knight score.

 

Chattahoochee 47, North Forsyth 20: Justin Jackson returned two punts for touchdowns as the visiting Cougars pulled away from North Forsyth. Jackson scored first on a 62-yard return late in the second quarter, then returned the next Raiders punt 65 yards early in the third quarter. Running back Chase Nelson also scored twice for Chattahoochee.

 

Etowah 31, Wheeler 27: The host Eagles racked up 309 yards rushing, but relied on a late touchdown pass to defeat Wheeler. Quarterback John Oliver rushed for two touchdowns and threw for Etowah’s other two scores. His second touchdown pass came on a 10-yard strike to receiver Ben Rowell from 10 yards out with less than 40 seconds on the clock.

 

Grayson 45, Dacula 7: Grayson racked up almost 500 yards of total offense to overwhelm visiting Dacula. Wayne Gallman and Aares McCall amassed more than 100 yards on the ground and Gallman scored two rushing touchdowns. Quarterback David McTier rushed for a touchdown and connected with Korey Anderson on a 75-yard scoring strike. Robert Nkemdiche added a rushing touchdown for the Rams.

 

Langston Hughes 28, Rockdale County 0: Rockdale County could not move the chains against the visiting Panthers Friday night. Demonta Graham was the leading rusher for the Bulldogs. Willie Hardman started the game at quarterback for Rockdale County and looked in the direction of wideout Christian Shipp often. Shipp was the leading receiver for the Bulldogs.

 

Johns Creek 49, Centennial 24: The Gladiators’ Skye Overton ran for two scores and threw for three, while Chase Rosenberg of the host Knights was 28-of-32 for 321 yards with three touchdown passes. The Gladiators jumped to a 35-10 halftime lead and scored twice on runs by Overton, who also hit Bradon Fortin and Andrew Szambelan on passes of nine and 39 yards for touchdowns.

 

Lassiter 41, Cherokee 6: Willie Police had 111 yards rushing on 14 carries to go along with six catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns for the visiting Trojans. Lassiter quarterback Eddie Printz threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns. Blake Wilson had seven receptions for 103 yards to lead all Trojans receivers.

 

Lovejoy 30, East Coweta 7: Travis Custis had 135 yards rushing and 51 yards receiving with a touchdown catch to help the visiting Wildcats. Quarterback Alejandro Bennefield threw three touchdowns passes, to Custis, Brandon Davis and Jeff Murphy.

 

Milton 45, Roswell 31: Milton pulled away from visiting Roswell in the fourth quarter of a game that was tied 21-21 at halftime. The Eagles gained 562 total yards (403 rushing). Ole Miss commit Peyton Barber led the way with 22 carries for 266 yards and two touchdowns, and Treyvon Paulk also rushed for two scores. Milton defensive end Carl Lawson had four quarterback sacks.

 

Mountain View 24, Habersham Central 14: Quarterback Chris Bartlett used two touchdowns, one rushing and one passing, to guide Mountain View past the visiting Raiders. Bartlett threw for 118 yards and rushed for 53 yards. Bears running back Marvin Elam rushed for 144 yards and also added a touchdown in the win over Habersham Central.

 

Norcross 36, Duluth 7: Fueled by their home fans the Norcross defense held the Wildcats to minus-4 yards from scrimmage in the first half. Myles Autry scored twice for the Blue Devils, once on 7-yard reception and again on a 55-yard punt return. Duluth broke the shutout late in fourth quarter when Markael Maxwell returned a Norcross interception for a touchdown.

 

North Cobb 52, Kennesaw Mountain 7: Xavier Borishade and J’vonte Herrod both scored twice in the Warriors’ home blowout, as Borishade had a touchdown reception and a punt return score and Herrod had rushing touchdowns of three and 65 yards. Cameron Albright had a long fumble return score to give North Cobb touchdowns in all three phases.

 

North Gwinnett 45, Meadowcreek 20: The visiting Bulldogs scored 45 points in the first half to defeat Meadowcreek. Bulldogs quarterback Michael Haynes threw three touchdowns in the first half of Friday’s game. Meadowcreek was held scoreless throughout the first half, but managed to score in the third quarter. The Mustangs scored 14 points in the fourth quarter.

 

Parkview 20, Archer 18: Parkview jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter before holding off visiting Archer. The Panthers scored on their first drive when Mac Marshall hit Jay Turner with a 59-yard touchdown pass. Parkview also received two rushing touchdowns and a two-point conversion from Chris Carson. Archer pulled within two on a late safety and missed a 51-yard field goal in the waning seconds.

 

South Cobb 42, Campbell 39: The visiting Spartans lost in heartbreaking fashion on a 27-yard field goal as time expired by Carlos Saldana. Chauncey Ingram led the Eagles with 141 yards on the ground and four touchdowns. Stephan Masha threw for 286 yards and a touchdown to receiver Ryan Sumner who finished with 153 yards receiving.

 

South Gwinnett 30, Shiloh 0: The host Comets jumped out to a 24-0 lead at the half. Quarterback Jordan Ramey threw for 242 yards and four touchdowns while running for another. His top target was L.J. Gainey with 105 yards receiving and two touchdowns followed by Coray Keel and Josh Boyd who each had a touchdown.

 

Stephenson 63, Lakeside-DeKalb 0: The visiting Jaguars took control early, building a 28-0 lead by halftime. Stephenson picked off Vikings quarterback Nick Alexander three times. Alexander finished 16-for-29 for 98 yards. Lakeside-DeKalb’s Brad Earnest had 81 total yards on offense and nine total tackles on defense.

 

Walton 24, Woodstock 7: Walton running back Tyren Jones rushed 27 times for 129 yards and a 21-yard touchdown. Junior quarterback Price Wilson, playing in place of the injured Parker McLeod, was 14-of-19 passing for 142 yards and a touchdown to Maurice Gibson. The Raiders held visiting Woodstock to just 58 total yards.

 

Class AAAAA

Bainbridge 31, Westlake 14: After visiting the Lions opened up the scoring with a 3-yard pass from Renard Battle to Daylan Roberts, Bainbridge scored 38 consecutive points to win easily. Quarterback Damien Bouie rushed for three scores on just six carries, and running back Terry Lewis added 187 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

 

East Paulding 47, New Manchester 0: Senior Lorenz Suttles contributed two touchdowns to the visiting Raiders’ shutout win. Junior quarterback Mitchell Webb threw both touchdowns to Suttles. Kamani Thomas also added a touchdown for the Raiders Friday night. East Paulding controlled the game from the start and led the Jaguars 20-0 at halftime.

 

Flowery Branch 47, Loganville 14: Host Flowery Branch ran out to a 33-7 halftime lead. Loganville ran for 206 yards, but could only manage seven through the air. The Falcons ran for 350 yards led by Justin Curry with 143 yards and three scores. Quarterback Jackson McDonald threw for 128 and a score while rushing for 92 yards and three touchdowns. Darius Curry ran one play as quarterback, an 82-yard touchdown run.

 

Gainesville 62, Apalachee 20: Gainesville scored 49 points in the first half in a rout of the visiting Wildcats. The Red Elephants also totaled 447 yards in the first half. Apalachee scored on a 98-yard kickoff return by Jody Mathis to start the third quarter, but Gainesville quickly answered with two kickoff return touchdowns.

 

Heritage-Conyers 21, Cedar Shoals 0: Myron Fears ran 13 yards for the Patriots’ first touchdown of the night. Darius Lewis scored the second touchdown of the night for host Heritage. Lewis returned the opening kickoff of the second half 94 yards to the end zone for a touchdown.

 

Kell 33, Creekview 29: Khalil Bell scored the winning touchdown on a 10-yard run with less than four minutes remaining as the Longhorns beat host Creekview in a see-saw battle. Kell also scored two times on turnovers. Brendan Langley returned an interception 54 yards, and Donnell Greene picked up a fumble and ran five yards for the touchdown.

 

North Paulding 43, Hiram 27: Kayden Bishop provided most of host North Paulding’s offense against the Hornets Friday night. Bishop threw a 20 yard pass for the Wolfpack’s first score and caught three touchdown passes against visiting Hiram. Throwing the touchdowns to Bishop was Chase Noonan. Bishop also kicked a 15 yard field goal in the first quarter.

 

Northgate 37, Ola 15: Visiting Northgate got big first-half scoring plays from Cole Carter (45-yard rush), Brandon Facyson (41-yard reception) and Sean Spencer (52-yard fumble return) to jump out to an early lead. T.J. Womack and Torrez Johnson also found the end zone, and Zack Braun hit a 27-yard field goal.

 

Pope 45, Northview 27: The visiting Pope Greyhounds received three touchdowns from junior Ronald Woods in its win over the Titans. Woods started the game with a 38-yard run and a touchdown on Pope’s opening drive. Sophomore Itabari Mason also scored three touchdowns for the Greyhounds. His longest run was a 53-yard touchdown. Both backs had more than 100 yards rushing.

 

Riverwood 20, Sequoyah 14: The visiting Raiders moved to 4-0 for the first time since 1986, highlighted by Tyler Blake’s 85-yard touchdown run. Blake set up another touchdown with a 50-yard reception that put Riverwood on the 1-yard line. Preston Stewart turned in eight total tackles on defense to lead the Raiders.

 

Sprayberry 31, Forsyth Central 28: The lead changed hands five times in the first half, finishing with host Forsyth Central clinging to a 13-10 halftime lead. Halfback Torrey Richardson busted loose in the third quarter for a 44-yard touchdown run to give the Yellow Jackets the lead for good. The Bulldogs scored late in the fourth quarter, but it would not matter.

 

Starr’s Mill 46, Mt. Zion-Jonesboro 0: Timothy Roberts returned the opening kick-off 84 yards for a touchdown and it was all Starr’s Mill from there. Dion Munerlyn led the way for the visiting Panthers with 15 carries for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Mitchell Ray also rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown for Starr’s Mill.

 

Tucker 50, Dunwoody 0: The visiting Tigers ran for 376 yards in a victory over Dunwoody. Three Tucker running backs each scored twice. Yusuf Minor made the most of five carries, rushing for two scores and 156 yards. Dallas Rivers added two rushing scores, and Dominique Sanders scored once on a run from scrimmage and on a punt return.

 

Whitewater 39, Union Grove 0: Trevor Morgan caught four passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns for visiting Whitewater. Christian Wafford also scored twice, rushing for a 10-yard score and picking up a fumble near midfield and running it in. Kendall Conley (three yards) and Justin Peck (25 yards) added rushing touchdowns.

 

Class AAAA

Banneker 29, Redan 7: The Raiders took an early 7-0 lead, but Banneker’s Jalen White carried the host Trojans to an easy win. White carried the ball 29 times, gaining 220 yards and scoring on runs of 32, two and five yards. Quarterback James Boyd was efficient in the pocket completing nine of 13 attempts for 127 yards including a touchdown to Jahmmir Taylor.

 

Griffin 52, Woodland-Stockbridge 20: Devonta Freeman rushed for three touchdowns and more than 100 yards for the visiting Bears. Anforne’ Stroud, Malik Miller and Jaquez Parks also rushed for touchdowns, and Darquavious Mangham had a touchdown reception.

 

Lanier 14, Madison County 7: Visiting Madison County led the Longhorns at halftime 7-0, but could not hold onto the lead. T.J. Skelton scored the first half touchdown for the Red Raiders from three yards out. Lanier scored twice in the second half and took the lead on a recovered fumble that was returned 95 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

 

Marist 53, Therrell 0: Myles Willis threw a pair of touchdown passes to Greg Toboada and also ran for a 38-yard score as Marist raced to a 39-0 halftime lead and cruised to victory. The host War Eagles completed their scoring in the third quarter, which featured running touchdowns of three yards and 42 yards by Chase Martenson. Nick Carrier added a 19-yard interception return for a score.

 

Stockbridge 15, North Clayton 14: Stockbridge established a 15-point first half lead, then repelled a late comeback by North Clayton. Quarterback Trent Earl ran for a score and Malik Bryan rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown. North Clayton scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, but were unable to complete the comeback.

 

Class AAA

Blessed Trinity 21, White County 19: The visiting Titans earned a slim victory thanks to running back Milton Shelton’s 131 yards rushing and touchdown run. Sam Roberts caught four passes for 91 yards and a touchdown for Blessed Trinity. Roberts’ touchdown came late in the first half to give the Titans a 14-13 halftime lead.

Woodward Academy 24, Westminster 3: Woodward Academy spoiled Westminster’s homecoming by taking a 10-0 second-quarter lead and coasting to victory. Jollyce Myrick (five carries, 73 yards) and quarterback Terry Googer scored on touchdown runs for the War Eagles. Woodward forced two turnovers deep in its own territory, including an interception by Quincy Wolff that he returned 97 yards for a touchdown.

Class AA

Wesleyan 17, Brookstone 14: The Wolves got a school-record 49-yard field goal from Rhett Delk as time expired to win on Homecoming. Wesleyan held a 7-0 halftime lead after Will Anderson scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak, and added to the lead in the third on a 4-yard Miles Smith rushing touchdown. Brookstone scored twice late in the fourth quarter, the second time after Wesleyan fumbled deep in their own territory, to tie the game. Delk, who also punts and starts at linebacker and tight end, had six tackles.

 

Class A

Athens Academy 10, Our Lady of Mercy 7: Quarterback Austin Schulte threw a 74-yard touchdown to Eric Williams late in the fourth quarter to boost host Athens Academy over the Bobcats. Schulte completed 11-of-17 passes for 164 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. One interception was returned 18 yards for a touchdown.

 

Darlington 34, King’s Ridge Christian 17: A battle of the Tigers started with Darlington taking a 21-3 halftime lead. King’s Ridge attempted a comeback in the second half, as running back Penny Hart scored a 30-yard touchdown. Quarterback Bailey Miller added a 1-yard score, but it would not be enough to defeat visiting Darlington.

 

First Presbyterian 24, Pace Academy 20: The visiting Vikings intercepted two passes in the final period and converted both into touchdowns to overcome a 20-10 deficit. Quarterback Brooks Stroud hit receiver Scott McCormick for a 15-yard score to give the Vikings the winning margin. Knights quarterback Kevin Johnson had three touchdown passes on 17-of-24 passes for 234 yards.

 

Walker 21, Mt. Zion-Carroll 14: Cameron Bloebaum scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak with eight minutes remaining to break a 14-14 tie and help Walker past visiting Mt. Zion-Carroll. The Wolverines were led by Evan Kasian, who rushed 21 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns including a 37-yard scoring jaunt in the first quarter. Patrick McPherson gained 61 yards on 11 carries for Walker.
