Friday Roundup: LeBron to LeLeave after Cavs loss? Thrashers hold two first-round picks, Yost to KC

The Boston Celtics said they were going to treat last night as their game seven, not wanting to go back to Cleveland for the real game seven. Consider it mission: accomplished. Boston defended its home turf 94-85 and won its third straight game in the Eastern Conference semi-finals to take the best-of-seven series 4-2. Cleveland’s season once again ends without a championship , despite the regular season’s best record, home court advantage and the MVP on its roster. LeBron James, in possibly his final game with the Cavs, finished with 27 points on 8-21 shooting .  For good measure he also collected 19 rebounds and dished out 10 assists. For Boston, Kevin Garnett tallied 22 points and 12 rebounds and Rajon Rondo lit up the scoresheet with 21 points and 12 assists. Now as Boston moves on to face Orlando in the Eastern Conference finals, beginning Sunday at 3:30 p.m., James will officially become a free agent on July 1 .

It was revealed that the Atlanta Thrashers will hold the No. 8 as well as No. 24 overall picks heading into June’s NHL draft. The Thrashers learned of the No. 24 spot after the New Jersey Devils lost in the playoffs. Atlanta acquired the Devils first round pick as part of the Ilya Kovalchuk trade, as well as an exchange of second round picks with New Jersey. The draft takes place June 25 and 26.

One potential replacement for Bobby Cox when the long-time Braves skipper retires at the end of the season may be off the market. The Kansas City Royals fired their manager Trey Hillman and named Ned Yost the interim manager through the rest of the season . Yost was 457-502 in five-plus seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers and now takes over a team that is 12-23 and in last place in the AL Central , 10.5 games back of Minnesota.
