G-BRAVES BEAT: Jurrjens gets win in third rehab start

The G-Braves came out on fire by scoring eight runs in the first four innings and would go on to beat the Buffalo Bisons, 10-4 on Thursday night. Jordan Schafer led the game off with a double and was singled in by third baseman Wes Timmons, to make it, 1-0. Diory Hernandez then hit an RBI single and it was 2-0. Timmons had an RBI double in the second inning and before the Bisons could blink, it was 7-0.

Everything looked easy for Jair Jurrjens in the first three innings of his third rehab start for Gwinnett. He breezed through the first 10 hitters, not allowing a hit.

The fourth and fifth inning were anything but easy for J.J. He was hit around pretty hard and allowed four runs. His final line was six innings, four runs, seven hits, one walk, one strike-out, one homerun and one wild pitch."(I) wanted to work out some pitches but couldn’t do that. The game got close and had to back off a little." said Jurrjens. "The first three was good, a lot of ground balls. Then all those runs."

All those runs didn’t cost him the win, but it may have cost him the chance to come up to Atlanta right now. Jurrjens wants to return as soon as possible. "Tomorrow," he said after the game. "I’m tired of being on the DL and anxious to get back."

Although he struggled towards the end of his outing, Jair felt good about his performance. "It sounds weird, but I felt the best in the last inning after a lot of pitches," he said. The right-hander finished with 81 pitches, 53 for strikes.

Jurrjens helped his cause with a RBI single in the second. He went 2-for-3 in the game and looked injury free while running the bases. "Running the bases was a little scary, but it feels good, everything feels normal," Jurrjens said.

Diory Hernandez broke out of his slump and went 4-for-5 on the night with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored. He also made a spectacular play at second as he turned and threw to first to complete a double play, early in the game.

Freddie Freeman’s 12-game hitting streak came to an end, but he managed a walk and a RBI on a sacrifice fly. He also amazed the crowd with an impressive effort, stretching for an out at first base that only helped validate his fielding skills.

The 10 runs were the most scored by the team since May 2, when they put 11 on Pawtucket. They finished the 10 game home-stand by going 5-5 and will head out on the road tomorrow to start an 11-game trip.
