Georgia lacrosse programs crowd national polls

For years, the debate in the Georgia high school sports landscape has been whether it’s a football or basketball state and while that has been hotly debated, the sport of lacrosse is also putting the Peach State on the map this season. Currently, there are nine lacrosse programs that are near the top of the national rankings from the state of Georgia. In Boys’ Lacrosse, Georgia has a four teams that landed in the top ten national rankings. The girls, similarly, have three teams ranked in the top ten and another ranked in the top-25.

With a plethora of players receiving Division-I & Division-II scholarships for Lacrosse, the sport could find itself settled in the top four high school sports in Georgia over the next couple of years.

The No. 1 team in the nation for Boys’ Lacrosse is Lambert High School, with a record of 13-0 so far this season, they’ve made their presence felt through domination and high scoring games. They average 12 goals scored a game and they’ve scored in double-digits in every game. In eight of their wins, they’ve won by seven or more goals.

Not too far from Lambert, Lovett High School finds itself ranked at the gift spot in the national rankings. Yet another undefeated team, at 10-0 they look to keep up their momentum going up until their season finale which looks to be a matchup for the ages as they’ll play  the aforementioned Lambert High School on April 23rd.

The top ten rounds out with North Paulding and Roswell. North Paulding sits at 13-0 and has scored 172 goals this season. They’ve scored 19 or more goals in three of their wins and look to move up in those national rankings.

Roswell is 9-3 with a 22.1 rating and a 12.6 strength of schedule which is the fourth highest out of all the top ten teams. Two of their three losses came to Lambert and Lovett. Outside of that, they’ve won 5 games by 8 points or more.

For the girls, Milton is the highest ranked team in the state. Earning a number three ranking for their performance thus far throughout the season. Milton is undefeated with a 9-0 record. They’ve posted two shutouts and have won six of their nine games by double digits, including a 20-point victory against Dunwoody in the season opener.

Creekview stops in at fifth in the rankings, unsurprisingly with an undefeated record at 9-0. They have an average margin of victory of 7 points and plan on continuing their quest of domination.

Blessed Trinity is seventh in these rankings, although they have the most wins out of any team ranked in the top ten. At 14-0, Blessed Trinity may be the most dominant team in the rankings. Half of their wins came by double digits and 10 of their wins were played away from their home field.

Mill Creek is 10-3 on the season and landed at 21st on the most recent rankings. They’re top five in goals scored on the season with nearly 200 goals scored with five games left to play. They’ve surpassed the 20-goal mark three times this season and coming off of a loss they’ll look to make an example out of their next few opponents.

With the season winding down and the best teams establishing themselves at the top, only time will tell on where all the hard work and adversity got them following postseason play.
