GHSA sets attendance record at football state championships

The GHSA set a record attendance at the football state championships this season in the association’s return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

There were a record 50,622 people who attended the state championships from Monday to Wednesday which included eight championship games from Class 7A to Class A Division I and II as well as three flag football state championship contests.

“Pleased but not surprised,” GHSA executive director Robin Hines said Thursday. “The move back to Mercedes-Benz Stadium was well-received. After all, it’s the world’s best venue. The games played on Monday-Wednesday worked well and placed a spotlight on our games throughout the country.’’

The Georgia Dome held the previous GHSA state football attendance record when 47,922 people visited the event in 2016.
