Houston County, Tattnall Square debut in rankings

There just weren’t many major upsets or highly-ranked teams going down this weekend, but there were several adjustments made to our GHSA football rankings in Week 4 of the season.

In Class AAAAAA, only one ranked team lost (Peachtree Ridge to McEachern), but that loss allowed Hughes to re-enter the rankings.

Class AAAAA saw Coffee and Ware swap places after the Gators nipped the Trojans 24-21 Friday night in Waycross. Lanier moved up to No. 8 after beating previously-ranked Flowery Branch 27-12. Houston County is now ranked for the first time this season after starting the on 3-0.

In Class AAA, Ringgold and Elbert County tumbled out of the top 10 after losses while Westside-Macon and Adairsville each debuted after impressive 3-0 starts.

Lamar County and Washington-Wilkes each lost in Class AA and dropped as a result. Dublin replaced Heard County in the top 10 after winning two straight.

Class A-Private saw Tattnall Square debut at No. 10 and Savannah Christian jump into the top five. Mount Pisgah also entered the top five. In Class A-Public, Atkinson County is now ranked No. 10 after a 3-0 start.
