Jontavius Wyman Continues Impressive Start To Sophomore Season

Jontavius Wyman put together another impressive performance this past week against Dutchtown in a 34-33 victory and is up for player of the week. Wyman has had a strong start to his sophomore season. Coming into the season, Wyman stepped into a bigger role and has handled it brilliantly for the Jonesboro Cardinals. Wyman stands at 6’2 and is a playmaker on both sides of the ball. In the win against Dutchtown, he had three interceptions and returned two for touchdowns. His ball skills are off the charts.

“Jonte is a kid with a special talent and he has great instincts,” said head coach DeTimothy Floyd. “He’s a super athletic kid who’s a football player.”

Wyman’s defensive back coach chimed in on what makes him great at forcing turnovers and what makes him a playmaker defensively. Coach Brooks already sees some of the potential in Wyman that he saw in several other greats he coached at Jonesboro including pro cornerback Cam Sutton (Steelers) and Jordan Griffin.

“Jontavius has great ball skills and great instincts. Playing the cornerback position, he has a high I.Q., which I believe is next level stuff,” said Brooks. “His ball skills and awareness remind me of some of the great defensive backs that I have coached at Jonesboro including Cam Sutton and Jordan Griffin.”

Offensively, Wyman had a passing touchdown, 150 all-purpose yards, and a receiving touchdown to finish out his dominant stat line. His wide receiver coach talked about what makes him so special at a young age and the dynamic he brings to the offense for the Cardinals. For one, he is a gifted athlete that you can put anywhere on the field and his explosiveness radiates throughout the team.

“Jontavius is a unique talent that brings multiple skill sets to our team. He gives the WR core another dynamic of explosion & YAC ability. Ultimately he’s an overall team player and is determined to be the best,” said WR coach Domo.

Recruiting coordinator Coach Carmicheal better known as Coach Syrup chimed in on where Jonte’s recruiting currently stands, what coaches are getting out of his talent, and why he can be a difference maker for any program.

“Jontavius is a dynamic player anywhere on the field but especially with the ball in his hands,” said Carmicheal. “His recruiting is moving slowly but soon the world will know who Jontavius Wyman is. I am looking forward to seeing him continue to surprise me on Friday nights!”

Currently Jonte has offers from Georgia State, Pittsburgh, Akron, and Bethune Cookman. Wyman will continue to garner buzz throughout the recruiting journey and will only get better and better. His ball skills and ability to read the offense make him an elite defensive prospect. Coupled with how dangerous he is on offense with the ball in his hands, Wyman may have a chance to play both ways in college. Jonte is a player you want to get the ball to and let him do his thing. This is a name you want to know before he blows up.
