JOURNAL OF A COACH: New uniforms could inspire passion

New Centennial football coach Jeffrey Carlberg is quickly putting his fingerprints all over the Knights program, and he has invited Score along for the ride during his first year at the helm. Here are highlights from the last two weeks on the job.

The Centennial football program is getting hotter by the day it seems. I interviewed a candidate for a potential position on our freshman staff. We are still getting a lot of interest in our program from people wanting to be a part of it. The most important step a new coach must take is building a quality staff. To do that, you must hire good people then trust them to do a good job.

I met with our principal Dr. Miletto last Tuesday along with the candidate that we will hire as the new defensive coordinator. The meeting was to discuss a timeline for hiring and the position that he will have within the faculty.

The next day we met with two of our coaches to discuss the speed and conditioning program. That night I spoke at the Rising Freshman Program, addressing the parents of our rising freshman class about the Centennial program.

Finally we ordered new uniforms for our football team for the 2012 season. We will be returning to black uniforms and the players are excited about the change in color.
