LAX UPDATE: Westminster girls take Dogwood Classic

Westminster’s girls lacrosse team won the Dogwood Classic over the weekend in Buckhead. The Lady Wildcats won games over Ravenwood (Tenn.), J.L. Mann (S.C.) and, in the tournament final, Episcopal (Texas). In the final, Westminster won 14-11, as Caroline Heys scored four goals and Anna Silverstein scored three. Goalie Katie Rush had a career-high 13 saves. In the two-day event, Heys tallied 17 goals and six assists while Eve Knapp totaled 11 goals and three assists. Heys and Rush were named to the all-tournament team, and Heys was voted co-most valuable player of the tournament. The Lady Wildcats improved to 10-0 over the weekend and are now ranked No. 1 in Class A-AAAA and No. 2 overall in the state by LaxPower.com. Westminster is off until April 4, when the Lady Wildcats play rival Lovett. In the third-place game of the Dogwood Classic, Roswell defeated J.L. Mann 21-5. The Lady Hornets defeated Louisville Collegiate (Ky.) 13-3 in the first round before bowing to Episcopal (Texas) 8-7 in the second round. Freshman goalie Caitlyn Shipskie was named to the all-tournament team.

Woodward Academy placed fifth in the Dogwood after wins over Louisville Collegiate (Ky.) and Ravenwood (Tenn.). Collins Hill placed eighth in the Dogwood after losses to J.L. Mann (S.C.), Ravenwood (Tenn.) and Louisville Collegiate (Ky.).

LaxPower.com boys No. 1 Milton defeated No. 3 Lassiter 6-3 Thursday. Collins Hill took down Duluth 12-4 Saturday to improve to 6-5 on the year. Holin Axley scored four goals for the Eagles while teammates Pat Singer and Tyler Agee each notched two. The Wildcats (6-4) were led by Ben Loyal’s two goals.

Woodward Academy’s Drew Jackson scored 10 goals and had eight assists in her team’s 21-16 win over Sprayberry. March 20. Milton, ranked No. 1 in the state by LaxPower.com, will face Vero Beach (Fla.) this weekend in Florida. Vero Beach is ranked No. 1 in Florida by LaxPower.com.
