McEachern running back Taj Griffin, one of the top running backs in the state and a University of Oregon commitment, will miss the rest of the high school football season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

A source familiar with the situation said the tear was found in an MRI done Monday on Griffin’s knee.

Griffin hurt the knee late in the fourth quarter of Saturday night’s game against North Gwinnett in the Metro PCS Corky Kell Classic. Griffin twisted the knee when covering a punt. Fox sideline reporter Ashley Rosenberg, who was on the McEachern sideline after the play, told the television audience she heard Griffin tell the trainer “something popped.’’

Griffin rushed for 1,194 yards and nine touchdowns last season with the Indians. Griffin rushed for 138 yards and three scores against North Gwinnett prior to the injury.
