Mill Creek 3-Star linebacker, Luke Metz, commits to Alabama over trio of SEC schools

Mill Creek 2025 3-Star linebacker Luke Metz has announced his commitment over the weekend to play football at the University of Alabama. He is the third commit to Alabama’s 2025 class in the last week.

The linebacker had received offers from schools such as LSU, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Tennessee before ultimately deciding to head to Tuscaloosa.

Metz is the second recruit from the state of Georgia in the 2025 class to commit to the Crimson Tide this week after Darrell “Duke” Johnson pledged his commitment to Alabama last week. The Hoschton-native has been on the Eagle football team for the last two seasons where he has made a name for himself on both sides of the ball.

In his sophomore season in 2022, Metz was a member of the Mill Creek team that won Class 7A state championship. The 2022 Mill Creek team also featured former 5-Star recruit and Alabama defensive back, Caleb Downs, before his departure to Ohio State in the off season. Metz recorded 35 tackles, three sacks and two tackles for loss as a sophomore in his first season of getting playing time on the varsity team.

Under head coach Josh Lovelady, Metz has made the most of his opportunities on the field while improving each season. In his two seasons playing for the Eagles, Metz has started in both seasons, proving to be more than an asset for Mill Creek.

Coming off of a state championship in his sophomore season, Metz followed the next season improving his numbers in every statistic. He was utilized on both sides of the ball last season for the Eagles, playing both linebacker and tight end. Metz accounted for 51 total tackles including five tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hurries, five sacks, a forced fumble and an interception on defense while catching four passes for over 40 yards on offense according to 247Sports. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs in 2023 after coming off of their first state championship in program history a year prior.

Though he is known for and was recruited for his abilities on the football field, Metz is a multi-sport athlete for Mill Creek, playing baseball and running track as well.

In track and field, Metz ran a 11.67 second 100-meter dash in his junior year.

Before Alabama landed commitments from three prospects including Metz in the last week, the Crimson Tides recruiting class ranked in the mid-teens. After Darrell Johnson and Abduall Sanders Jr. commitments in back-to-back days, it went ranked from 13th to eighth. After Metz became the eighth commitment in the 2025 recruiting cycle for Alabama, the Crimson Tides class rose to sixth-highest ranked in the nation behind Notre Dame, LSU, Clemson, Ohio State and Penn State, with plenty of work left for the new Alabama football coaching staff under Kalen DeBoer.

Alabama’s class is made up of seven 4-Stars and one 3-Star athlete as they look to continue building off of a strong start on the recruiting trail for the new staff in Tuscaloosa.
