ELITE JUNIOR CLASSIC: Robert Muschamp

Darlington High School

Robert Muschamp is a linebacker/defensive end from Darlington School. His work on defense the past two years has helped Darlington improve its record each year. This year, Darlington started the season by beating Murphy (N.C.) 50-6, but then fell to Class AAA power Cartersville which is ranked third in the state. The Tigers responded with a 35-13 win against Chattooga.

Robert was All-region in 2012 and will look for all-state honors this season.

As far as his future after graduation, Robert has been actively pursued by a great number of schools.

“Recruiting has been good so far. It has picked up a pretty good bit since September,” Robert explained. “Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Duke, Auburn and Mississippi State are showing a pretty good amount of interest.”

Muschamp has given many schools something to be excited about after attending several camps this past summer. Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, Florida and N.C. State were just a few of the camps he attended.

“I was pretty busy this summer with all the camps,” he said.

Muschamp obviously has the motivation to work hard on the football field to set up his future on the field. He also works his tail off in the classroom. Through his sophomore year, Robert has an impressive 3.4 GPA. Balancing football, recruiting, and academics is quite the juggling act, but Robert has been successful in doing just that. Time management will be a good skill to have because he wants to eventually coach at the college level.

On top of all his work on the field and in the classroom, Robert still finds time to volunteer whenever he can. Students attending Darlington need 60 hours of community service to graduate, but Robert will probably shatter that mark.

“I work with the Boys and Girls Club over here,” he said. “Playing with the kids, just giving them something to do after school.”

In addition to the Boys and Girls club work he does, Robert and his teammates also volunteer at football camps for underprivileged kids.

Muschamp has helped Darlington to a 2-1 record thus far this season and a No. 10 record in the Class A-Private rankings.
