New Yankee Stadium a home-run haven

The Yankees are off to a less than stellar start this season. The new Yankee Stadium has not been kind to its tenants. They claim it more or less has the same dimensions as the old stadium so surely everyone wants to know why on earth balls are flying out of the park at a record pace. They’ve even gone so far as to contact a meteorologist to try to find an explanation.  I’m only guessing, but awful pitching is probably a big factor. In defense of the new stadium they have their fair share of problems on the road as well. When they’re not busy losing by two and a half touchdowns to the Indians at home, they’re on the road getting drilled by division rivals. As a team they’ve been unimpressive, but the least impressive of them all has to be Chien-Ming Wang. He’s been awful. He’s actually been worse than awful. His ERA is 34.50. I can’t even begin to comprehend that. He’s been the starter for their two most embarrassing losses this season. He gave up six hits and eight runs in just one inning of work in Tampa. Not to be outdone by himself, he then gave up eight hits and eight runs in less than two innings to the Indians in his next start. He spearheaded their 22-4 thrashing of the Yankees in their new home. Wang has faced 45 batters this season and 30 of them have reached base. The fact that he’s only pitched six innings makes those numbers even worse. He’s basically facing almost eight batters per inning. As a Yankees fan I’m mortified! $200 million clearly does not buy what it used to.

I’m sad to have to write that my 16 year old cousin who I wrote about a few weeks back lost his battle with cancer on April 18. He fought hard, but it was so aggressive there was nothing medically they could do. They buried him in his Elba Tigers No. 54 jersey.
