Before the NFL Draft begins on May 8 there is one more important offseason event that the Falcons and football fans should be aware of. Sometime in mid-April (usually between April 11-20) the NFL will announce the dates and times of every team’s schedule. The 2013 schedule was released on April 18 of last year, but it is never a set date. The home and away opponents were already released and now the league will work on the date and times. The Falcons will get the Panthers, Saints, Bucs, Bears, Cardinals, Browns and Steelers in the Dome this season. The Falcons have their eighth home game against the Detroit Lions in London for the NFL’s International Series game. This is the only game set with a date at this point and that kickoff will be at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 26 during Week 8 of the 2014 NFL season.

DOME COOKING …

The Falcons hope that this year will finally give them a home game to open the season. The last time Atlanta had its season opener at home was in 2009. The past four seasons Atlanta has had to start the season with visits to Chicago (2010), Pittsburgh (2011), Kansas City (2012) and New Orleans (2013). The Falcons are just 1-3 in those games. This year’s road games will be against the Panthers, Saints, Bucs, Packers, Vikings, Giants, Ravens and Bengals. Atlanta was 1-7 away from the Georgia Dome last season, but the win came on a neutral field against the Buffalo Bills in Toronto. The Falcons last “true” road win came on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 against the Detroit Lions (31-18), more than 67 weeks ago.
