Parkview Panthers Stay Hot In Region Play

The Parkview Panthers baseball team continued their winning streak by defeating the Brookwood Broncos 3-1 at home in a matchup between two of the top-ranked teams in Class 7A. The Panthers and the Broncos are ranked No. 3 and No. 2 respectively in Class 7A and are in second and fourth place in Region 4.

The Panthers, led by starting pitcher Mason Brown, held the Broncos to one hit throughout the entire game. Parkview scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and one run in the bottom of the third inning. As a team, they had seven total hits throughout seven innings.

Brown was the player of the game for the Panthers, with an ERA of 1.00 with five strikeouts after facing 22 batters and only allowing a .048 batting average.

Other notable players for the Panthers include senior shortstop Ryan Spikes, who had two hits on two at-bats, scored two runs, was hit by a pitch and had three stolen bases. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Colin Houck had two hits on three at-bats, scored one run and two RBIs.

The Panthers move to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in their league, Class 7A Region 4. They also extended their winning streak to three games.

Head coach Chan Brown is very impressed by his team’s energy despite their relative youth and believes that they have the potential to get even better down the line as the playoffs come around.

“We’re trying to take steps moving forward each game,” coach Brown said. “We had a young team coming into the year and so we’re just taking it game by game, inning by inning and it’s just a thing that we’re trying to grow each game.”
