Patriots get extra week to prepare for Gwinnett power, Parkview

The football team had a bye last week, giving them extra prep time for their upcoming regional opener against Parkview on Friday. The Patriots (1-1) will look to get their second win of 2008 and end their eight-game losing streak to the Panthers. Last year, Berkmar played their closest game against Parkview since their 13-10 win in 1999, as the Panthers prevailed 21-7. The game against the Panthers (1-1) marks the beginning of the Patriots’ Region 8-AAAAA schedule. … Jeff Kimble, Phil Nitura and Aldo Hernandez all ran under 20 minutes at the Berry Invitational last week to help the boys cross country team finish 52nd overall. Alisha Hartman’s time of 26:40 led the girls to a 50th-place finish. … The volleyball team lost to Kell in the Cobb-Gwinnett Challenge on Saturday. The team will play in the Collins Hill Challenge this Saturday and try to improve their 1-10 record. … The softball team had an interesting week, beating Columbia 31-18 and losing to Campbell 18-3. The Lady Patriots will travel to North Springs for a game this Wednesday.
