Patriots move to .500 on the year with win at Shiloh

The football team won its first region game of the year last Friday, going on the road and beating Shiloh 20-17. The Patriots relied heavily on special teams on the night, with their offense only mustering 35 yards on the ground. Kadeem Wise opened the game with a 90-yard touchdown return, but the lead was short-lived in what would become a back-and-forth battle. Berkmar’s player of the night was Nick Henry, whose 61-yard punt return in the fourth quarter set up the game-winning points for Berkmar.  Henry then put the game away, picking off a pass with just seconds remaining in the game. The win evened both their overall (2-2) and region (1-1) records. The Patriots will have a major test this Friday when they host perennial power Brookwood.  … The volleyball team will participate in the Gwinnett County Championships, which begin on Thursday.  After a week during which they dropped three games, the Lady Patriots will try to use the championships to turn things around. … The softball team fell 18-1 to Osborne last Monday. The team has a date this Wednesday at home against Meadowcreek.
