Quarterbacks riding recruiting carousel

The recruiting carousel has kicked it up a notch with signing day fast approaching. Calhoun quarterback Taylor Lamb returned from an official visit to Appalachian State last weekend and decided to switch his pledge from South Alabama to the Southern Conference power. According to the Chattanooga Free Press, Lamb cited the style of offense, the atmosphere and the chance at early playing time as the reasons for pulling the late switch. South Alabama wasn’t without a stud Peach State quarterback prospect for long as Collins Hill’s Brett Sheehan decided Sunday he would suit up for the Jaguars. Sheehan had been committed to FIU for nearly six months before de-committing on Dec. 5. … Another high school quarterback committed Monday, but Tucker’s Juwaan Williams will likely play defensive back or receiver at the next level. Williams announced he would attend Oregon on Fox Sports Net’s “Next Class” last night, selecting the Ducks over offers from Notre Dame, Florida State and Clemson. Williams has incredible size for a defensive back, checking in a 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. … Miller Grove defensive end Courtney Miggins pulled the trigger on a pledge to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette over the weekend. The 6-foot-5 standout also was receiving interest from Ball State, Louisville and Mississippi State according to 247Sports.com. … Alex Hayes of Tucker will head to one of the ACC’s newest programs next season as he committed to Syracuse over the weekend according to Rivals. The 6-foot-3, 280 pound guard played both ways for Tucker last year but will likely focus on the offensive line at the ACC level. … North Gwinnett’s offensive line will likely feature three players sign on National Signing Day with Andy Kwon headed to Georgia Southern, Devondre Seymour mulling between UGA, Alabama, and UNC and Alex Stoehr, who committed to Georgia State. Stoehr and Seymour were both featured in the Score 44 at various times this season. The former made his intentions official Friday afternoon. … Archer kicker Zach Wachholz announced yesterday via Twitter that we had committed to the Air Force Academy. … Also out of Gwinnett County, South Gwinnett defensive back Deonte Davis pledged to Georgia State over offers from Colorado State, Navy and Air Force according to the AJC’s Michael Carvell. … Finally, Sam Arrington’s father has confirmed to Score that the Johns Creek offensive lineman will head to Mercer next season. According to Tim Arrington, Sam “is excited about playing for Mercer next year and for being part of the inaugural group bringing the Mercer football program back.” Bobby Lamb, Taylor’s father, is the head coach of Mercer, a program that is quickly gobbling up other under-the-radar prospects across the Peach State, including North Gwinnett’s Michael Haynes.
