Roswell fills coaching vacancy as busy offseason continues

The new year has produced a wave of coaching opportunities and the annual shuffling has once again changed the landscape for some of Georgia’s top programs. The biggest news came earlier this week when Roswell replaced John Ford with Johns Creek head coach Matt Kemper, who previously led the Pope Greyhounds. Ford was picked up with Buford and long-time North Gwinnett head coach Bob Sphire was hired by Camden County to take over a Wildcats program that saw its worst season since 1988 with a 2-7 finish in 2016.

Former Jefferson head coach Ben Hall accepted the head coaching job at Flowery Branch and offensive coordinator Gene Cathcart took over the Dragons program. In Gwinnett County, Mark Fleetwood has left a vacancy at Peachtree Ridge that has yet to be filled. Undergirding the head coaching changes will be the multifaceted assistant coaching changes that could reunite and introduce former colleagues and rivals.
