Spartans effective in 2-minute drill, lose on last second FG

The football team lost a heartbreaker against Hart County 17-14 last Friday. Quarterback Colton Chapple had a tough time passing (5-for-19, 80 yards) but led a late scoring drive, which culminated with a 16-yard touchdown toss to Matt Knauss with less than two minutes remaining. Hart County then drove down the field and won on a 37-yard Zane Rowland field goal. GAC head coach Ken Robinson will seek his first win next week when the Spartans host St. Pius X on Friday at 7:30 p.m. … After beginning the season 2-0, the volleyball team will try to halt its four-match losing skid against North Forsyth and Brookwood on Sept. 4. Head coach Kristy Shelton hopes to get her team on the winning track prior to the Gwinnett County Championships on Sept. 25. … The softball team has not started with the same dominance as the 36-3-1 squad of last season. With GACA Class 2A Pitcher of the Year Jessica Coan taking her skills to Georgia Tech this fall, the Spartans have started the season 3-3. Regional play starts Thursday against Avondale.
