Spartans on the wrong end of special team mistakes in 31-10 loss

The football team lost to St. Pius X 31-10 on Friday night. Two high snaps and two blocked punts, both of which resulted in touchdowns, hurt the team. Head coach Ken Robinson will try to lead the Spartans (0-2) to their first win, as they host Chattanooga-based Baylor this week. The team will then have a bye week before beginning its region schedule against Westminster on Sept. 26. … The softball team (5-4) won convincingly against Jordan 15-0 last Friday. The Lady Spartans will want to bring some offense into the upcoming week, as they play four regional games, including a Thursday visit from defending state champs Buford. … The volleyball team fell to 4-5 overall after losing four games last Saturday. With the County Championships looming on Sept. 25, the team will try to get back that winning feeling against Central Gwinnett and regional foe Buford this week. … The cross country team participated in the Berry Invitational at Berry College last Saturday. The boys placed a respectable 19th, and were led by Caleb Townsend and Travis Elrod. The team posted a cumulative time of 1:40:14.
