SPRING NOTES: Westminster junior honored by ESPN

Westminster junior Caroline Heys was named ESPN’s Southeast girls lacrosse player of the week for the week ending on March 25. Heys was recognized partially due to her performance in the Dogwood Classic, where she had 17 goals and six assists. … State girls overall No. 1 Milton fell to Vero Beach (Fla.) 13-11 in the Amlax Challenge in St. Petersburg, Fla. The Eagles are ranked No. 9 nationally, while Vero Beach is ranked No. 8, according to LaxPower.com. In the same tournament, Milton defeated Mt. St. Joseph (Penn.) 13-9 behind seven goals from Annie Rutland, who will play for the University of Southern California next year. Northwestern signee Lydia Cassada had four goals for the Eagles. … Class A-AAAA No. 1 Lambert beat No. 3 Westminster 7-3 Tuesday.

In gymnastics news, Lambert won a meet with three other teams at Lovett on Tuesday by scoring 101.7 points. The Longhorns, in their first year as a varsity gymnastics program, edged 2010 state champion Lassiter by just one point. Providence Christian, the 2009 state champion, came in third with 90.4 points, while the host Lions scored 61. The all-around title was shared by Lassiter’s Candace Walton and Lambert’s Katie Stuart and Taylor Pastor, who each totaled 35 points. Stuart and Pastor also tied for the overall lead on vault and floor, while Stuart also won on bars. … Pope won a meet at Pace Academy Friday by outdueling the host Knights and Sequoyah. Pope gymnasts Rosalind Austin, Dani Climmons and Sydney Haag made up the top three in the individual all-around, with Austin taking first place. … West Forsyth edged Pace Academy 93.1-90.05 in a dual meet on Tuesday. The Wolverines were led by Alexa Kieffer, who won on beam and vault, and Abby Kabbo, who tied for the floor title. Pace Academy’s Erin Rawls won on the bars, while Kelly McGonnigle tied for the win on floor. … Carrollton won a meet at Westminster with a score of 101.9, slighting the host Wildcats who totaled 101.0. Forsyth Central took third place with 94.55 points while Chattahoochee finished fourth with 85.35. Westminster’s Sarah Dyer won the all-around individual competition. … St. Pius X senior Jennifer Rochefort signed with Southern Connecticut State University Friday
