Mount Vernon’s girls soccer team turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 overtime victory on a game-winning goal from junior striker/forward Gracie Hudgins on Friday. She scored two goals in regulation before the game-winner in overtime.
The victory was a family affair for the Lady Mustangs as the assist on the game-winner came from Hudgins’ sister Madeline. Mt. Vernon opened scoring in the first half on an assist to Hudgins by Ella Ruth Campbell. Atlanta International rallied to take a 2-1 lead with goals at 12 minutes and two minutes before halftime.
Hudgins scored the tying goal with two minutes left in the match before the Mustang defense stepped up to force the overtime period. Goalie Katieanne Peterson took the win for Mt. Vernon with 13 saves.
